Hi, I'm chinese and I've lived in england since age of 8 but grew up in hong kong. I think your article is pretty good. A really important point in my opinion is the caligraphy style. I've seen some tattoo sites that have flash chinese characters and for example 7/8 styles of a certain character. Alot of the styles would be artists redrawing the character making it more aesthetic but completely ruining the character and by this I mean I would look at it and think "what the hell...thats just shit! and that word should so not look like that even if its 'correct'"
Another point is your 7th point on 'waiting 5 full days', I think maybe you should change that to 'a couple of months depending on how much time you're willing to give yourself' as I think 5 days is way too short as its so criminal for people (especially aged around 18) to get a tattoo because 'its cool' and then regret it later when they're mid 20s. Lastly, being chinese one of the things I really hate is how chinese tattoos (or food or anything in general) are integrated with the japanese. In fact alot of the older local chinese hate the japanese because of world war 2 (personally I have no problem with, I've got a few japanese friends myself) but I think if its classed as 'oriential' its fine but I see so often things classed as 'japanese' and contain chinese or vice versa...etc (p.s. kanji is japanese hehe, no offense taken though ) |
