Do you mean a japanese style portrait of a japanese character such as a geisha/samauri or do you mean a portrait say of a loved one finished with japanese theme, background such as traditional wind and waves or leaves ,dragons? even kimono /cloth patterns and possibly symbolism? Either way it could be really cool dependant on the artist and his imagination and ability to connect with the concept in Your mind .If your interested in the above google some japanese themes and demigods and see if you find something that relates to the portrait subject. Is the portrait you are considering a person that has some kind of japanese connection? If not perhaps you could finish the portrait in a theme that directly relates to the subject person heritage etc. I love taking a traditional theme or style and putting a new twist to it so I feel almost anything goes if your into it are comfortable wearing it the rest of your days Good Luck and welcome to the site hit us back with your thoughts. B

well i want a sea turtle and ive seen some really nice koi's in just black ink. i was thinkin of takin that koi style and in the turtle shell havin a collage of the eyes of loved ones to make up the shell instead of the octagon or pentagon shaped shell segments that occur naturally. i was just wondering if i should go with real vibrant full color turtle or maybe mostly black with some colored shading and just black for the eyes.

The concept is awesome , do you have some good reference pics for the eyes? Do you think you are into a more realistic style or more cartoonish?

well i definitely want the eys realistic. I think that if i went with solid vibrant colors on the turtle it be too conflicting, thats why i think just the black with some colored shading; but more realistic overall. I also wanted to know if you knew of some good artists in the San Francisco/ Northern California area that could make this possible?

I think you are totally on with the thoughts about contrast color eyes and
blackwork it should be major striking. The national tattoo convention is like the 28th of this month in seattle I dont know if its to far a stretch for you or not my personal fave artist Chip Harris from aceshightattooshop.com will be there you can check alot of his work in the gallery section on this site or on there home page aceshightattooshop.com there number is 5616159444
if you think it could possibly work out for you . Also the convention is being sponsored by aaron bell and slave to the needle if you haven't checked there page and work you should in Cali I really dont know as i'm an east coast ghost
Hit me back B
