Tattoo Artist With Cancer Paints Urinals To Cheer Patients
NBC11 met a 21-year-old tattoo artist who is a patient at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital who has found a way to use his art to connect with younger patients who have cancer. Pat Herrmann spends nearly every minute of every day drawing. He told NBC11's Marianne Favro that is his way to escape. "The cancer I have is a small round blue cell tumor. A rare pediatric cancer," Herrmann said. Herrmann said he is now trying a new medium and his canvas is urinals. He started with his own, but has since customized 50 for the younger patients. He said he is still getting requests. Herrmann is also creating pictures for the children on his floor. Herrmann said although he was a comic book artist who loved to sketch zombies, he found himself drawing fairies, frogs and turtles. Hermann has 40 tattoos and a nose ring. He admits his looks scare some of the children at first, but said his talent usually wins them over. He told Favro that drawing for other people is not only rewarding, it kills the time. Fellow cancer patient Cory Degara, 7, had a special request of Herrman. He wanted to see Superman against a ghost rider. Hermann is three times older than most of the patients here, but he said the children have connected with him and now he wants to give back. He said he is designing a coloring book with input from all the children on his floor. Favro said thanks to Hermann, Degara was able to escape the land of leukemia, radiation and chemo and join the land of superheroes. /copy and paste from http://www.nbc11.com/health/13591207/detail.html Kids loooooove drawings. The reporter may have gotten Degara's request slightly wrong, however. It was probably Superman versus Ghost Rider rather than "a ghost rider". Just a guess. -- Curt |

But then, I did it more to point out something, something you either don't get, or don't care about. Websites sell advertising. The advertisers expect people to come to the website. By posting content, you prevent the advertisers from having the opportunity. That is wrong. Artists should respect copyrights. It is their only chance to protect work. I guess since you aren't an artist, and have nothing you can sell, you don't care. Perhaps you think it makes you an anarchist. What is your saying? Oh yes: it reflects on you. > Finite time, Kavvy. Excuse me, Sheriff Taylor, but maybe you and Barney Fife could solve that one murder-suicide and let the website advertisers worry about the impact of people posting articles to RAB. > But then, I did it more to point out something, something you either > don't get, or don't care about. Oh, I care. I caZZZZZ > Websites sell advertising. The advertisers expect people to come to > the website. By posting content, you prevent the advertisers from > having the opportunity. Actually, by posting the article and the link at the bottom, I'm possibly driving more customers to their websites. Duh. > That is wrong. *You're* wrong. Don't hear me crying, though, do you?
