Question about nose piercing

I have a couple of questions about my nose piercing. I hope someone
can help. I got a piercing in my nostril about 2 months ago. It was
done with a needle and a nose-screw type of jewelry was put in. It
seemed to be healing fine with no problems, and then last week I
noticed that there was a ridge of skin growing around the side of the
hole and it was red and sore. I remember the piercer telling me about
hypertrophic scarring so I guessed that that's what this was. So I
started cleaning it more and putting some polysporin ointment on to
help it heal. Anyway, I was at the Dentist today and he happens to say
"You know that tissue around that piercing doesn't look very healthy -
put some hydrogen peroxide on it." And I noticed it was red and
bleeding a bit. So I went to the piercer and he said to put vitamin E
oil on it and it will be fine.
So I have a few questions:
1) If it's infected, shouldn't I put something more than Vitamin E on
it? (there's no unusual drainage)
2) Is hydrogen peroxide a good idea? What about saline soaks?
3) Can I just take the piercing out and it will heal up? Will the
scarring go away, or will there be a lump where the hole was?
