You're either allergic to something or you're not. A skin prick test with cat dander, would give a reaction on you anywhere on your body. The reason why you get a reaction when you rub your eyes but not when you're in a room with a cat is that exposure is much more intense when you rub it in your eyes, plus the surface is different. Mucous membranes have a single layer of epithelium, skin has lots. Being in a room with cats doesn't necessarily make your skin itch either. A friend of mine gets an itch in her ears or throat, but not her arms for example. It could be two things: 1. you're allergic to Ti, but because of differences in skin texture, you don't notice it everywhere. 2. It's the surface of Ti jewelry. From what I understand, Ti is never as smooth as steel? Maybe Ti irritates your skin in your lobes because the skin is more delicate there as, say, in a navel piercing. I'd have to say this is more plausible because real Ti allergies are very rare, and wearing jewelry for extended periods of time should be enough to cause a reaction elsewhere. But you're weird, so why shouldn't you be the rare allergic person :D. You could get tested, that's about the only way we'll find out for sure. Otherwise, we can just state that "different kinds of jewelry are not tolerated equally well in every piercing" and be done with it. I have spoken! My piercer always anodizes the Ti jewelry. It coats the surface with Titanium oxide which does smooth the surface. Mine is Kavin blue -- they call it that. Really. Kavin |

I seemed to have misplaced my crystal ball, so I can't tell you what's really wrong with you :P. Or with the Ti jewelry.
