I don't have a shop recommendation for you, just a piece of advice: don't get tattooed on vacation. You're going to be sore, and you're going to have to avoid the sun until it's healed enough to smother it with sunblock. Unless you're going on vacation for a couple of months, this could take up significant amounts of your time ;). Alternative: Get it done on the last day or so and be uncomfortable on the way home (provided you find a decent shop). Nina |

Otoh, a tattoo remembrance sounds great, too. I stayed at the Ocho Rios Sheraton Hotel... which I believe has gone the way of the dinosaur. Never looked for a tattoo shop there, but did enjoy the Jamaican hospitality, music, and booze. ;o) If you choose to get your tattoo while there, I'll kindasorta echo the words offered elsewhere in this thread - have the tattoo done on the last day or so rather than being uncomfortable during the meat of your vacation. Have fun! Post pics! :o) -- Curt http://curtjames.com/ |

thanks for the advice, but i am a tattoo virgin, and i was wondering
how incredibly uncomfortable it will be if i do get one while on vacation (even if it is way small) Curt James wrote: > Itradedlaughs wrote: > > i'm going on vacation soon and i was wondering if > > anyone knew of a credible artist in ochos rios jamaica/ > > if you could tell me that would be fabulous. > > thank you. > > Go parasailing instead. My first tattoo measures about... http://www.geocities.com/curt_james/stuff.html (scroll to the lizard ink blot) an inch or so by maybe two or so inches. Took minutes to complete and I was out the door, no longer a tattoo virgin. After care was next to nothing. I just left it alone as per the often recommended advice. I didn't go swimming in the surf though, so... Still, I'd wait towards the end of my vacation to get one done. Whatever you choose to do, I suspect you'll live. :o) When do you leave for Ocho Rios? Are you flying or is it part of a cruise you've planned? Regardless of transport, enjoy yourself! re > Curt James wrote: > > Itradedlaughs wrote: > > > i'm going on vacation soon and i was wondering if > > > anyone knew of a credible artist in ochos rios jamaica/ > > > if you could tell me that would be fabulous. > > > thank you. > > > > Go parasailing instead. Search string was: fresh tattoos and swimming http://www.sharptattoos.com/summertime.html http://www.ultimatearts.com/faq/swim.html http://www.everytattoo.com/tattoofor...65ffa e13b5c6 Realistically, you're not going to die. (Well, otoh, there ARE sharks...) But I'd recommend avoiding the ocean swim and the sun exposure following a fresh tattoo experience. Again, have fun in Jamaica! re > Curt James wrote: > > Itradedlaughs wrote: > > > > > thanks for the advice, > > > > You're welcome. Swim: about a week, after all scabs have fallen off and the skin is smooth again. Expose it to the sun: ideally, never again, at least not without sunblock. While it's most vulnerable in the first 4-8 weeks, UV rays will fade a tattoo over time. At least avoid sun*burn* like the plague. I'd still prefer finding a competent artist at home so you have someone to go to if there's a problem. The prospect of a customer never returning *could* lead to "interesting" business practices...
