Newby here, just got my first tat, and am looking forward to more.
When I was trying to explain a style I wanted to the artist, I couldn't describe it, but there was a photo in a recent tattoo mag (probably Tattoo, but maybe another one) that is the style I want. Unfortunately, I lost the issue and don't recall which one it was. The main focus of the picture was a girl (asian) sitting behind a piano. As I recall it was mostly yellow and black, but the colors were vivid. Does that ring a bell with anyone? If you think you recognize it from my palty descrition, I'd love a small photo (to be sure it's the one I'm looking for) and the month/title of the mag. Thanks. |

Come on. What's that one tattoo on your leg? It seems your a master of many areas, however I wasn't aware that you created DooM designs, is it? http://images.google.com/images?q=DooM Thief? Not necessarily. Not at all, actually. At least so far as I interpet what the OP presented initially and you perhaps self-servingly snipped: "When I was trying to explain a style I wanted to the artist, I couldn't describe it, but there was a photo in a recent tattoo mag (probably Tattoo, but maybe another one) that is the style I want." "Style I want" sounds less like thief than it does someone, yeah, inquiring about artwork *to build upon*. A style, not a carbon copy. Not that there's anything wrong with direct copies, of course. http://www.geocities.com/curt_james/calvin.html And perhaps you left calf? H! T! H! -- Curt |

As Curt explained, my post said I was trying to describe a STYLE. I
guess you could say I'm steeling it, but I want different characters, and a different bacground, and no piano, and I have a list of elements I'd like the artist to try and incorporate into the picture.Oh, I thought the colors were a bit dar and wanted it a bit lighter. Kind of like if I copy someones song but use different notes in a different order with different words. As far as designing my own, I'm not an artist, at least not in any way that doesn't involve musical instruments, and not very good at that. That's why I hired an artist to do it. But I take it from the response, no one knows. Thanks anyway. Guess I'll check the shops around here and see if any have old magazines in the waiting area. If anyone does stumble across it, I'd still appreciate the info though. It is small (3x4) but I like it and I like the work that the artist (Vic Back) had on display. It's not yet another skull, dragon, or dagger, but it suits my tastes. |

The local paper had a great article on parents getting tattoos to commemorate their families. Whoever wrote the headline used "Tat" on the continued headline. It's simply a word which by my way of thinking offers no indication of quality or lack thereof. Get over it. -- Curt |

Good luck on tracking down the image. I haven't purchased a tattoo magazine lately, sorry. -- Curt |

He has some nice work on his page (http://www.vicback.com). The term "tat" itself is seen as a put-down by many. It's usually used by the uninformed, or those who don't care. When I hear "tat", I automatically think "yet another skull, dragon, or dagger", and badly executed to boot ;). Nina |

I'm taking it English is not your first language? (and no, that was not meant as anything other than a question) Tats are what crack-whores and toothless rednecks get. Evidently, it is also a term that people who wish to sound "cool" use. It is slang. It is a sub-standard word. And as such, for those of us who believe there are such things as good and bad tattoos, tat refers to a sub-standard tattoo. Kavin |

Actually, I have a masters in communication, and have taught college
english. I was born in American and have been speaking english for 52 years. On a pretty much daily basis I'm creating technical reports and documents to be presented to the FDA and other US and foriegn government agencies. After screwing with technically accurate writing 8-10 hours a day, I seldom bother to worry about it when I'm kicked back at home. As far as the term "tat", while it may be common knowledge to you that it's a derogatory term, it isn't to every one. In fact, those that have a strong english background would probably associate the work with making lace (look it up in the dictionary), which as far as I know is not a pass time enjoyed by "crack-whores" and "toothless rednecks" (though I am curious as how the qualitry of dental work plays into it?). As far as how I used it, I was being lazy and looking for a way to type less. The same as when I type "LOL" in place of "Laughing out Loud". I do thank you for the explanation of how YOU use the language though, and I will try to communicate where you can understand me in the future.
