Walk around and look out for pierced folk. I know there cabs. Or there were twenty years ago. A few years more than that, actually. Took the train to London and then asked a taxi driver to give me the tourist drive around town. I'll bet he could have taken me directly to a local piercing shop if I'd asked. Best wishes. Please post a follow-up. And, Kavin, don't be a... Kavin. :p -- |

What's YOUR point? Since you seem a little dense, or "daft," I guess I should spell it out. We are the people to visit for piercing and aftercare knowledge. But if you want to know of a specific shop in Great Britain, perhaps a "British" group would suit you better. I'm thinking that since I live in Atlanta, GA, the odds of me hopping on a plane to London to get a new piercing are slim to none. And listen to Curt only if you wish your piercing to rot and fall off. He's "retired" more piercings than you wish to know about. Kavin |

My question was serious, I didn't realize it was a US based group. Fair enough. A lot of the reputable places have shut here, or have moved to mainstream shops, where I couldn't get the type of piercing I want. Other places heve very mixed reviews and feedback. I need a good experienced licensed, local authority registered piercer who knows what they are doing. It is a while since I had my last piercing, so yes I may have lost touch with whats happening. Because there had been a UK-based equivalent to this goup. And, come now, they don't have phone books or directories in London? You don't know any pierced people in your neck of the woods? There are some non-U.S. folk who poke their nose in here occasionally, so perhaps you'll get a helpful reply yet. Stay tuned! -- |

It always has been an international group and I am not aware of any equivalent in the uk hierarchy. My suggestion would be that you treat yourself to a day out in Reading, Royal Berkshire. There is a regular coach service from Kings Cross and last time I was there there were 5 tattoo studios and several more dedicated piercers all within, or within easy walking distance of, its pedestrianised centre. (yes, that is spelt right). If you stay on the M4 until junction 12 you should find yourself going into the centre by way of the Oxford Road, on which at least one of the tattooists is based. Despite not having any work done in Reading myself, the studios I saw all looked clean enough and the bodyart people wear in the place also looks of a high standard. To what extent this is because of the presence of world-renowned artists such as Ian of Reading whose work has featured across the range of the American-based "Tattoo Magazine" stable of titles published by the EasyRiders group as well as in the UK and European tattoo press, but in what is quite a competitive market sector my feeling is that he will provide a benchmark to which other artists locally will aspire or, to put it bluntly, go out of business. Whereas I should not recommend approaching random people with extensive bodyart work hanging out on street corners in London I can say that getting recommendations when you are actually in Reading itself should be easy enough as it has quite an informal and friendly atmosphere (despite an increase in reported crime) and it is a pleasant day out with friendly pubs and affordable coffee shops and so forth, including some really rather old ones built, for some reason, next to its ancient places of worship. It's mainly because it's about an hour away from London - and, let's face it, you'd spend more than an hour in London checking out all the possible places to get work done - and is small enough to be easy to find everywhere, yet has an international reputation for top quality work.
