I just saw a commercial for tonight's (11/1) "Inside Edition".
Apparently a girl got a nipple pierced for her 18th birthday. It didn't go well and she lost her breast. I haven't seen the full story yet. What is on their website (http;//www.insideedition.com) follows. Fred. Stephanie Edington is a beautiful teenager facing a very grown up nightmare. Doctors recently gave her a horrible choice: have her breast removed or die. Stephanie is not suffering from breast cancer; it was all due to a terrible infection she says she got after she had a body piercing on her 18th birthday. Now her left breast has been completely removed, and Stephanie is struggling to recover. Her heartbreaking story has thrust this small town girl from Indiana into the national spotlight. Newspapers all over the world picked it up, and it was even talked about on Howard Stern's radio show. Stephanie got her piercing at a tattoo and piercing parlor on her birthday with a sign on the window that reads "Pan Free Piercings." Stephanie says that within a few weeks, the pain in her left breast became excruciating. "I was just scared so I went to the emergency room, I figured maybe they'd just give me some antibiotics," Stephanie told INSIDE EDITION. By the time she arrived at the hospital, doctors gave her just four hours to live. "I said I want a second opinion," Stephanie's mom said. "He said you don't have time for a second opinion, she won't make it." Dr. Robert Goulet broke the horrible news to Stephanie. He showed the CAT scan to INSIDE EDITION, where her left breast can be seen as twice the size of her right breast. The owners of the tattoo parlor says they did nothing wrong, but that's no comfort to Stephanie who is still in the hospital. All her heartbroken mom can do is hold her daughter's hand and watch her suffer. "I'm infuriated," she says. "There's no one protecting our kids who are getting this done everyday." |

Terrible for the girl, obviously, but infections happen. Relatively recently, a local boy lost his feet, one hand, and most of his other hand after a fight with staph infection. Doctors couldn't pinpoint specifically where the boy encountered the infection, however it may have been something as simple as a scrape during a baseball game. Google staph infection, lost limbs and see what you see. Bad news. The girl is lucky it was "only" a breast. -- Curt http://curtjames.com/ |

Maybe if you spent as much time trying to forge close relationships with adults as you do with children, you'd have a girlfriend. -----yttrx -- http://www.yttrx.net |

Typically. Normally I wouldn't have to when it comes to replying to your posts, however. I could simply type "Quit whining about me, Kavin!" as a catch-all blanket-type response. > Come on, explain the obvious mistake. Sure. > It has to be obvious if you saw it. ahaha Yer cute when your underoos are inna bunch, Kavvy. > What is it? > > And by the way: semicolon. You decided to get gastric bypass surgery? Obviously there's nothing funny about what eventually "happened" to the girl, however it's also obvious that mistakes were made. I'm assuming not all of them (or perhaps any of them) by the piercer. Now, Kavin, if you weren't so apparently blinded by the waistband of your underpants which may just be blocking your view of all things smack dab in front of your face, perhaps you'd've seen bishop.dia's rhetorical question, "She waited until her breast had -doubled- in size?" I'll call that obvious mistake number one. The other, what I'll call obvious, mistake was allowing the infection to take place at all. Certainly it's safe to say the infection wasn't deliberate. Assassin piercers? I don't believe it. And so barring "deliberate" as an option, I'm left with accidental or "a mistake" which, yeah, I'll call obvious mistake number two. Yes, it's obvious that mistakes were made. There's no question about that. Well, your question, but, hey, I consider the source if not the intent. Hth. -- Curt http://curtjames.com/ |

Not allowed at all. "No, Mr. Piercer, don't autoclave anything. I don't allow infections." Yeah, you proved your point. Too bad you don't get the point. Kavin |

Perhaps that's exactly what the girl did, but I doubt it. And that imaginary statement runs counter to what I suggested. Anyone who would say that would certainly be allowing an opportunity for those bugaboos to enter their system thus, yeah, "allowing the infection to take place," right? > I don't allow infections."
