So i really want to get a full sleeve but i work in the IT dept in a
corporate office, do you guys think its a terribly stupid idea to get this sleeve and be stuck in long sleeves forever. My company right now doesn't care but i'm young and don't plan on being here for long, but at the same time I am who I am and really want this full sleeve. Is there anyone here who has big tattoos and works in a similar environment and has any insight? Please help i have an internal struggle and have 2 weeks to work it out. |

Well, to get that sleeve you really want, would you be willing to wear long sleeves if required? Would it be worse to wear long sleeves or to live without that full sleeve? I don't think anyone but you can answer these questions. > and have 2 weeks to work it out. You made an appointment before even figuring out if you're going to go through with this? You have to make the choice, and bear in mind that having a full sleeve may well influence your current or future employers' attitudes. Unfortunately. On the other hand, if you have a sleeve that ends at or above your wrist, interviews shouldn't be a problem and you can "unveil" it after you get the job. Remember that tattoos show through white shirts.... as I found out when I (briefly) worked in an office environment. It didn't take long for someone to notice, and while some people were interested and asked to see more, others definitely changed for the worse in their attitudes towards me. I guess it depends on your workmates and your management, and whether you are (or will be) working behind the scenes, or with clients. I think that if you decide to go ahead, you should display it proudly at work... you can't realistically spend the rest of your working life in (non-white) long-sleeved shirts. A well designed sleeve should be much more acceptable to people than a prison-drawn swastika or something. Maybe you could get the chest-piece done, and show a few selected people (colleagues and bosses) at your current workplace and get an idea of how people react before you go the whole way. Good luck, anyway! |

Good luck, anyway! thanks for the advise, as for my current job most of my coworkers either know i have or seen my ribpieces, so this job its not really an issue,, i work in IT so most of the time deal with people in my company, but its who i am and i think i'm gonna get it, my plan is to wear long sleeves for the next few weeks and see how i can deal with it as well as other poeple in the office then i'll decide to go ahead with, or scratch the sleeve. |

I've got 2 full sleeves and I work in a rather sensitive job for the Dutch government. I've got the sleeves for almost a year now. In the beginning there were a lot of ohhh's and ahhh's and that died down within a few months. No one cares anymore and I NEVER wear long sleeves. People got used to it within a few weeks. Just go for it. You have a fundamental right to body modifications ! Freedom of expression and all that ! -- Hans van Eynsbergen There is an art to flying, or rather a knack...
