A friend of mine (Al) died yesterday morning -- multiple organ failure
brought on by cancer. The body was cremated and there will be a service of some sort next week. Al was one of a group of elderly gentlemen I knew from a local bar where a friend is the bartender (she thought of Al as a second father and is wrecked over this. She has two African spur-thigh tortoises and Al had made their houses). After a trip to Miami, I forgot and left a picture of my piercings in a stack of photos. I had made the photo to show the girl who was going with me so she wouldn't spend the first hour at the nude beach just staring at my crotch. I figured the ride from the airport to the hotel and to the beach could be used for that discussion. By the way, it worked. Al had not seen the photo but he questioned whether it was true. "Yes, quite a few in my penis, Al." "I don't believe it." Standard questions of "why?" and followed by "You're lying." Fine. I said "Al, follow me." I went to the bathroom, dropped my pants, lifted my shirt and said "See!" Al looked, walked out and back to the bar and when I returned he said "I'll never question you again." The story has been re-told time again and I'm sure it will be brought up at the reception. Funny how we can touch people's lives. Kavin By the way, I burned a picture disk for Al to play on the DVD player in his room at hospice. Unfortunately, I didn't think about it until Monday. His niece said he enjoyed it. It had photos of his friends and the tortoises. I do hope he could see it in his final waking hours -- even if it did seem sort of Soylent Green to me. |
