Default Iowa Senate approves body piercing ban

Iowa Senate approves body piercing ban

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Children could have their ears pierced, but
no other body piercings would be allowed under a bill moving through
the Legislature.

On a 47-2 vote, the Senate on Monday approved the measure, which would
ban anyone younger than 18 from undergoing body piercing or other
"body modification," such as tongue-splitting or branding. It's
already illegal for minors to get tattoos.

The measure also would require businesses that provide body piercings
to obtain permits from the Iowa Department of Public Health. Owners of
tattoo and body piercing businesses could be jailed for up to two
years for operating without a permit. Violators could also have their
commercial property confiscated.

Sen. Joe Bolkcom, an Iowa City Democrat, said there have been a number
of cases where people contracted Hepatitis C, a liver disease caused
by a virus, from tattooing and body piercing.

"We want to make sure people in those businesses recognize the
seriousness of the harm they can do to" customers, Bolkcom said.

The legislation, which now goes to the House, does not include plastic
surgery. /copy and paste from http://qconline.com/archives/qco/display.php?id=332831

(yawn)

Georgia has had a similar law for years.

Feeling bad about all the bitching, Curt? Trying to fill the good
bank?

No, Kavin. You go ahead and cry all you'd like. I won't feel bad at
all.

And THAT reflects on you.

Better start researching your next "useful" post. I have a funny
feeling your bad bank will far exceed the good bank possibilities.

Ha! Original as ever, eh, Kavvy? Almost like replying to myself.

Hey, smackdowns are useful. I'm giving you the opportunity to whine
and cry. You seem to enjoy both.

You didn't write that either, did you?

Some might call it parody. Some might call it irritating. I call it
a deliberate act that got your goat. Who's whining? Not me.

Curt, you can call it crying and/or whining if you want. It shows
you know the meaning of neither word. But, that's not unusual for
you. "Giving?" Funny use of the word.

As far as the smack-down, I wouldn't call my observation a smack-
down. More like foreshadowing.

hth.

I'm not the one that obviously HAD to post at 5:38 am.

Again, it reflects on you.

heh

And if I set my alarm to ring when you have an original thought, I'd
still be sleeping.
