Default How much to tip?

What is the usual accepted amount to tip a piercer? I've never tipped a
piercer before so am unsure what is considered a fair amount.

As far as I'm aware there isn't.

If you feel like you've received excellent service leave as much as you feel
comfortble leaving and can afford but most importantly let them know they've
been good. It's that sort of thing that makes someone get up and go to work
in a morning. :o)

Even more importantly - tell any friends who want piercing to go to your
piercer.

If you want to draw a parrallel with tipping in a restaurant I believe
somewhere in the region of 10% is usually the going rate as a service charge
(random figure that seems to have fallen out of my brain but I suspect is
about right!)

I'll have a word with a mate of mine who pierces cos I'm going to their
house tonight (I never actually get charged for piercings! hehehe!) and I'll
post what they say in the next couple of days or so.

Hope that helps!

Rusty.

Great, thanks. And lucky you!

Sure does :)
I'm getting my lip pierced at Coldsteel in Camden next week so I think
I'll tip about £5 if I do tip. Though I'm already sure I will once
again get excellent service :)

Nick, who used to work at Visual Addiction, the shop around the corner
from me, received a six-pack of his favorite beer on more than one
occasion.

Cash is always appreciated, I'm sure, but cookies, beer, etc. wouldn't
be a bad idea, would it?

Kudos to you for considering to tip.

(Btw, who do I tip to make the UPB spammers disappear?)

Ok, word had. Summary of word follows...

They've never accepted a cash tip for a piercing and never would do. They're
really uncomfortable with someone trying to do that.

If you're not a UK person we don't really have a culture of leaving people a
tip for anything. Piercers charge more than enough to make a healthy profit
per piercing (particularly if it's a busy studio). They said that they do
the job cos they love doing it and if they didn't they'd get out of the
business and do something else. They will quite happily visit/take phone
calls from people worried about their piercing.

If something goes wrong they will as often as not either give a complete
refund, re-do the piercing for free and offer a discount to them if they
come back for a further piercing. (Dependent on the situation obviously - if
it's blatently someone not looking after it properly then no sympathy will
be forthcoming).

The way they see it is that that is all part of the service that you get
charged for. They don't want any more money than they see fit to charge you
up front.

End of summary.

Hope the extra opinion helps!

Rusty.
